The Cavalier — Dutch 17th Century Riding Boots

These riding boots are inspired by a real 17th-century Dutch painting. The style is old and classic — soft leather, tall boots, with a wide top that flares out.

Long ago, these boots were made for riding horses, not for costumes. The leather leg is soft and loose around the calf, so the rider could bend their knee easily. The wide top could be worn open for style or folded down for riding. We made this pair by hand, using the same old design.

Our family has been making leather boots by hand for over 30 years. Each pair is cut and stitched from full-grain leather. The leg is soft, not stiff, so it moves and creases naturally, just like the boots from the 1650s. The heel is low and simple, just like real riding boots from that time.
